Abstract Purpose: this study aimed to provide a method for measuring knowledge management capability based on the gold-infrastructure (technology, structure, culture) and process (envelopment, transformation, application and protection) using the fuzzy multi-criteria decision making method of Chang and Wang (2009) and to identify the way of understanding its output in the form of the verbal variables as stated by Lotfizadeh in the context of Sanam Company. Methodology: data were gathered by both qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data were collected by interviews with reference groups, specialists and experts involved in knowledge management. Furthermore, quantitative data were collected by fuzzy methodology for measuring knowledge management in organizations. Findings: managers can use this method to assess the ability of knowledge management in organizations, then to determine the optimal situation and prioritize the criteria obtained. Conclusion: the results from Sanam Company showed that its decision makers should prioritize their planning and other criteria in terms of application, technology, culture and infrastructure in order to improve their knowledge management.

Purpose: the purpose of this study was to explore and compare the performance of search engines and meta search engines in information retrieval of information science and knowledge science. Methodology: the research is applied one and in semi-experimental design. The statistical population consisted of all search engines and meta search engines active on the web divided into two categories of exploratory engines and exploratory meta search based on randomized sampling. In these two categories, seven search engines were selected based on purposeful sampling and five metasearch engines were also selected from www.searchenginewatch.com.Findings: among the seven search engine searches, Google search engine obtained the highest precision in retrieving relevant information, and among the five metasearch engines metagofer was identified as having the most precision. Moreover, the Google search engine and Yandex have the most overlap, and gigablast search engine showed the lowest overlap with the other search engines. Conclusion: search engines and metasearch engines have the same function in retrieving information related to the field of information Science and Knowledge Studies. The hypothesis of the research regarding the better performance in information retrieval has been rejected due the achieved results. However, in relation with overlap issues metasearch engines are of higher preference.

Abstract Purpose: the current research aimed to investigate the librarians’ usage of library software capabilities in regard with management, input-output, and preparation issues in special libraries located at Ahvaz city. Methodology: research was an applied one and with a survey method. The survey population were the total number of 74 librarians in Ahvaz’s special libraries. Due to the limited number of librarians, no sampling was applied. Data were gathered by a self-made questionnaire. Subsequently, the data gathered were then analyzed by statistical methods like independent t test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson using software SPSS version 22.0. Findings: mostly, libraries use the library software capabilities in management, organization, information input-output and preparation as well. Generally speaking, capabilities in organization, information input-output and preparation services were highly used compared to management capabilities as the least ones. Furthermore, analyzing the demographic characteristics showed that gender, field of study, years of service and age had no significant difference on the usage of library software capabilities by librarians. Conclusion: Overall, librarians had a good ability in using management, output and preparation capabilities available in library software. However, in terms of organization and information input, there is a need to train librarians about the capabilities of the software. Lastly, library software designers must evaluate and redesign the software to match the needs of the librarians.

Purpose: the current study aimed to identify and analyze the barriers existed in knowledge commercialization in the field of Information Science and Knowledge Studies and to measure their importance as well. Methodology: this study was an applied-theoretical one conducted by documentary analytic and survey method. The study population consisted of faculty members and doctoral students in Information Science and Knowledge Studies in main universities namely University of Tehran, Kharazmi University, Al-Zahra University, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Shiraz university, University of Esfahan and Shahid Chamran University studying in academic year 2016-2017. To analyze the data gathered, some descriptive statistics like mean and standard deviation and some inferential statistics like T single-sample and independent t-test were used. Findings: next to an extensive review, a set of 40 barriers for knowledge commercialization were identified and classified into 7 main dimensions. Among the barriers identified, the most important ones were identified as individual factors, supportive infrastructure factors, and legal-organizational factors. Conclusion: The commercialization of research findings provides this opportunity for professionals in Information Science and Knowledge Studies to distance it from a theoretical setting, to change ideas and knowledge into property, services and commodity, to play a crucial role in the real environment of the society and finally to find the concrete mode.
