Abstract
Poverty is a social and economic problem. The international institutions, such as World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization and the FAO consider it as a transnational and international phenomenon and they are trying to reduce and eventually eliminate it. According to, changes and developments that have taken place in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) and the impact it has on other aspects of society, including economic variables, it can also be effective in reducing poverty. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of ICT in reducing poverty. For this purpose, the panel data method was used and period of the studied is 2000 to 2021. The mobile penetration rate as a representative of information and communication technology and the macroeconomic variables of inflation and unemployment have been entered into the model as a misery index, and per capita income has been used as the macroeconomic variables affecting poverty. The results confirm the relationship between ICT, misery index and per capita income on poverty. Considering that ICT has a good explanation in reducing human poverty, governments should invest in the field of information and communication technology in order to reduce poverty and improve it. By allocating and guaranteeing financial resources, they can make it possible for the private sector to enter as much as possible in this field.
