Analysis and Visualization of Indexed Scientific Publications in the Field of Knowledge-Based Economy in the Web of Science Database

Abstract

Objectives: Identifying the leading countries in scientific production within the knowledge-based economy, analyzing the production trends of top authors, determining the share of universities and scientific institutions in this field, examining the language and temporal distribution of articles along with frequent keywords, and analyzing co-word clusters in the knowledge-based economy.
Method: This is an applied research study with a bibliometric approach. The statistical population includes all scientific articles on the knowledge-based economy indexed in the Web of Science database. Co-word analysis, network analysis, and Bibliometrix and VOSviewer software were used to analyze the data.
Findings: The findings of the research show that China has the highest share of scientific publications in the knowledge-based economy in the Web of Science database, followed by the United Kingdom and the United States. Iran also ranks 16th. Authors such as Liedersdorf have the highest number of scientific articles. Qatar University also has the highest scientific output in this field with 67 records. Most articles are written in English, and the highest number of scientific publications was recorded in 2019. The dominant research topics include "business economics," "educational research," and "environmental sciences." Among scientific journals, the "Journal of the Knowledge Economy" ranks first with 43 articles. The most frequent keywords include "knowledge-based economy" and "innovation," and the most important co-occurrences in the research are combinations related to "management" and "business." Co-word analysis shows that the concepts of "knowledge-based economy," "higher education," "knowledge management," and "competitiveness" have been identified as key clusters, some of which are in the maturity stage while others are still developing. Moreover, recent research indicates an increasing focus on concepts such as "innovation," "higher education," and "competitiveness," which play a key role in developing a knowledge-based economy.
Conclusion: The trend of scientific production in the knowledge-based economy has seen a significant increase in recent years, especially in developed countries. China, as a leader in this field, plays a key role through extensive investment in scientific research and technology. Additionally, topics such as business economics and innovation are of particular importance. Developing countries are also gradually becoming more active in this field by increasing investment in research and development.
Suggestions: Strengthening international cooperation between developed and developing countries to exchange knowledge and experiences in the knowledge-based economy, paying more attention to emerging topics such as innovation and human capital in future research, and increasing government and organizational support for developing research infrastructure in developing countries to strengthen their role in the knowledge-based economy.
