Introduction: The linkage between new scientific knowledge and technical innovations is very important, scientific citations of patent and technical citations of scientific papers are one of the ways to investigate the relationship between science and technology.
Purpose: The main purpose of this research is to investigate Iran’s scientific publication based on the International Innovation and Industry Influence, which is calculated based on the citations of patent to scientific papers.
Method: This research was done with a documentary method and scientometric approach and citation analysis. The research community is the scientific documents of Iran that have been cited in the patents in the period of 2018-2020.
Regarding that a period of three years has been considered for document citation review and all documents have been counted regardless of their subject and both of these factors are effective factors in citation, normalization for time and subject was done. In order to normalize the citations, the subject of each paper was placed in the 22 main subjects of the Essential Science Indicator based on the subject of publishing journals.
All documents were calculated by the complete counting method and all non-citable documents were excluded from the research community.
The WIPO technology concordance table links the International Patent Classification (IPC) symbols with thirty-five fields of technology. So, by using this table the technology field of each patent is determined.
In this research, Clarivate database products such as WOS and ESI as well as JCR and also Lens, WIPO and ISCWUR databases will be used as collection tools.
Research findings: In the period (2018-2020), out of 274,560 documents from Iran, 2,662 documents have been cited 4,000 times in 3,820 patents. Based on this, less than one percent of Iran's scientific works have been cited in patents. According to normalized citations, Islamic Azad University ranks first among Iranian universities with 25.25 normalized citations, and Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University rank second and third with 23.10 and 14.78 normalized citations, respectively.
Conclusion:
According to the technology classification, the largest number of these patents are in the field of pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology and computer technology are in the second and third ranks by a large margin.
Conclusion: Based on the subject areas, articles in the fields of chemistry, materials science, pharmacology and toxicology have been cited more than other subject areas in patents, which shows that these fields have had the greatest impact on innovation
