Purpose: The existence of different attitudes towards the concept of "information management" and the multi facetedness of this term, consensus about the cognitive and practical aspects, education and research, and the place of information management in different sciences in general and in special knowledge and information science has made it difficult; It seems that there are different understandings of the concept, topic and phrase "information management", which causes inconsistency and stagnation in reaching a common goal in this regard. For example, a basic question in this case is, what topics should education and research in this field focus on? This is despite the fact that by reviewing the literature, it becomes clear that a methodical and systematic approach to this issue has not been made, and a common goal in this field cannot be identified, and the efforts are scattered and isolated; So that all studies and researches have not even clarified the meaning of this phrase for us. Therefore, this research has been formed in order to answer these questions, what is the concept of information management? Information management can be imagined from what angles and what are the main approaches in this field? What is the philosophy of information management? Where is the position of this field in knowledge and information science? And what are the educational, research and practical priorities of information management in this field? And is there basically a consensus in these matters? The existence of these basic questions and issues shows the necessity of methodical and systematic attention to the cognitive and conceptual dimensions of information management. In this regard, this research aims to explain the main approaches to this concept, its position and dimensions, in a relatively comprehensive framework, in contrast to one-sided and limited views on the concept of information management; And under this relatively comprehensive approach, to reveal the position of information management in knowledge and information science and the consequences of any understanding of the concept of information management in this field.
Methodology: The research method is documentary-analytical; in which, while using texts, it was mostly the result of reflection on the views and their classification. This research by making the concept of information management comprehensive in the form of major approaches, by deepening it in the form of focusing on knowledge and information science and updating this concept in the context of the new information and knowledge society, in the pursuit of designing a framework for understanding the method Information management has been systematic.
Findings: In this research, by reflecting on the significant angles and different attitudes towards information management such as field, individual, organizational, national and international attitudes, and its relationship with different categories in the combined forms of information, first the angles. Everything imaginable was explored in this context. In the continuation of the process approach to information management, the topics of the project in knowledge and information science, where is our position and what is the priority, and the philosophy of information management have been examined. In the end, the general and cognitive research of information management, and its place in knowledge and information science, and its scientific, technological, practical, management and development consequences in knowledge and information science were paid attention to. Finally, it became clear that information needs information philosophy to identify goals and priorities.
Results: In this research, in addition to explaining the main approaches to information management, the need to pay attention to the formation and development of a conceptual system for information management in knowledge and information science has been emphasized; Because any understanding and conception of the concept of information management is decisive for planning in educational, research and technological dimensions in knowledge and information science. It is argued that all the subsequent consequences in the practical, managerial, developmental and prospective aspects of information management are the inevitable and forced consequence of the conceptual system of information management and derived from it. Finally, it has been emphasized that in order to create this conceptual system for this field, it is necessary to pay attention to the basic concepts and vocabulary and, in fact, to understand what this field is; Because the creation and development of a conceptual system for information management in knowledge and information science requires attention to concepts and vocabulary and what this field is in its new form, that is, discursive and systematic.
